Keegan Daniel back for Sharks (teamsheet)

Inspirational captain and capped Springbok Keegan Daniel will make his long awaited return to the Sharks side this weekend. Teamsheets

Up against the high-flying Brumbies, the Sharks have made 3 changes to the lineup that struggled against the Kings in the last round. His return luckily coincides witht he loss of Jean DEysel, who left the field early with an injury. In two rotational changes Charl McLeod starts ahead of Cobus Reinach and Odwa Ndungane replaces winger Lwazi Mvovo, both of whom have had solid starts to the 2013 campaign.

One of the main Reasons for Ndungane’s inclusion is his ability under the highball when compared to Mvovo. The Jake White-coached Brumbies play a very South African game centered around kicking for territory and this horses for courses move could be a stroke of genius by coach John Plumtee.

Sharks Team: 15 Louis Ludik, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Paul Jordaan, 12 Francois Steyn, 11 Odwa Ndungane 10 Patrick Lambie, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Keegan Daniel (captain), 6 Marcell Coetzee, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Anton Bresler, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Tendai Mtawarira.

Substitutes: 16 Kyle Cooper, 17 Wiehahn Herbst, 18 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 19 Jacques Botes, 20 Cobus Reinach, 21 Meyer Bosman, 22 Lwazi Mvovo.

Unchanged Sharks head to PE

TeamsheetsThe Sharks will field an unchanged side to that which beat the Stormers 12-6 in Durban last weekend when they face the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

This will be the third week in a row that the Sharks have selected an unchanged line up.

Coach John Plumtree told the media, that with no injuries and players being on form, he has no plans to rotate the squad just yet.

“We’re only at round three, there are two more games after the Kings before we have a bye and we’ll then have an opportunity to freshen everyone up which will be good.” Said Plumtree.

“Hopefully we’ll get better, players will make good decisions and we’ll maintain ball for long periods of time. That will give guys like JP Pietersen, Lwazi Mvovo and the rest of our backs more ball, more fast ball. That’s certainly what Pat Lambie wants because it’s obviously not ideal for him to get slow ball, it makes it pretty hard to run off, we just have to make sure we will get better.”  He added.

The Sharks travel to PE to take on the Southern Kings on Saturday, KO 19:05 CAT (17:05 GMT)

Sharks name strong team for Cheetahs match

The Sharks coach John Plumtree has announced a strong springbok laden team to take the field in TeamsheetsBloemfontein for the season opener against the Cheetahs.

New signing from the Lions lock Franco van der Merwe has been included in the starting line-up and will his first cap for the Sharks.

“We’ve picked a side that has the most experience for the occasion; It was a case of the experience factor with the tight five I’ve chosen.” Plumtree said earlier today.

They have also chosen to start rookie scrum half Cobus Reinach at no.9 in place of Charl McLeod  after an impressive 2012 Currie Cup.

The team will be captained by Frans Steyn who replaces the injured Keegan Daniels in leading the Durban based franchise.

“The way the Cheetahs play influenced a lot of the selections, they have a lot of speed and genuine threats in their backline and we have to be able to match that defensively,” Plumtree added.

Those Sharks not considered due to injury include;  Keegan Daniels (knee), Bismarck du Plessis (knee), Willem Alberts (shoulder), Butch James (knee), Tim Whitehead (hand) and Dale Chadwick (foot).

The Sharks travel to Bloemfontein to take on the Cheetahs this Saturday, KO 17:05 CAT (15:05 GMT)
