Having passed his medical assessment at French Club Toulon, Springbok hard-man Juan Smith is in talks with the cash-rich club on a return to top flight rugby. Having been out of the game for almost 3 years, the big flanker – who officially retired from the game – is looking to go out on his “own terms”.
‘I passed all my medical tests and I’m talking to them about a contract,’ Smith told Volksbladnewspaper. ‘I’m excited and feel good. It was a long time [on the sidelines] and I’m glad it’s over now. I only want to play rugby now.’
Smith thanked Cheetahs fitness coach Niel du Plessis for his remarkable recovery.
‘Niel worked unbelievably hard to ensure that I can play again,’ he said.
Being one of Rugby Window’s favourite Boms of all time, we wish him well in the next chapter of his career – and hope he still has a little left for a few Rugby Championship games, and maybe the 2015 World Cup.
