Springbok prop forced to retire

Deon Carstens, Springbok and Stormers prop has announced his retirement due to a persistent back injury. RW Stamp

Carstens joined the Stormers after winning the English Premiership with Saracens and won five caps for the franchise. He was also part of the 2012 Western Province Currie Cup winning team.

Carstens represented the Springboks 10 times, debuting against Scotland in 2002. He won the last of his international caps against the British and Irish Lions in 2009.

The big prop forward amassed 84 caps for the Sharks and won the Currie Cup twice with his Durban side.
