Venter went for the scan last week before getting the confirmation on Monday morning that for the next two months he will have to rest up, leaving the Bulls reeling with yet another injury.
Whilst many teams have lost a host of their top players it seems to be the South Africans who have suffered the most.
Whether its inadequate training, too much rugby, or just bad luck is yet to be established, but what is certain is that in such a long season coaches need to rotate their players enough to let tired bodies rest.
We have seen a more systematic approach to rotation this year, so obviously the physios and doctors are being listened to. Whether players need a game-time cap is a debate that could happen in the next few years, as big money realises that they are destroying their own assets – not to mention the great game of rugby.
